Course overview
A study of helping skills for pastors, leaders and members. The course reviews basic counselling and pastoral care principles with the ‘resourcing pastoral care’ component offering a Christian perspective of pastoral care, including - human need, the caring relationship, listening skills, safe practice, community resources and reflective practice.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and use helping skills in a variety of pastoral care settings.
- Recognise and practice basic counselling skills through reflective learning.
- Review referral opportunities, community resources and confidentiality.
- Become more aware of how to intervene in the following situations: (a) Personal crisis (b) Marital crisis (c) Family crisis (d) grief & bereavement (e) burnout.
- Identify pastoral care ethical guidelines and safeguarding.
